The Big Sleep je film s tako zapleteno zgodbo, da vseh dogodkov ni znal razložiti niti Raymond Chandler, avtor romana, po katerem je bil posnet film. V romanu je avtor brez zadržkov opisoval svet pornografije, kurb, mafije in morilcev, pri ekranizaciji pa so morali producenti poslušati še cenzorje, ki so imeli na takšno "umazano" tematiko ogromno pripomb, kar je še dodatno zapletlo že tako zamotano zgodbo, saj so v filmu lahko ostali le namigi. Gledalcu se predstavi tudi precejšnje število likov, o nekaterih pa se samo veliko govori, čeprav jih na ekranu nikoli ne zagledamo. Ob prvem ogledu je zmeda zagotovljena. In v vsej tej zmedi umirjeno križari Humphrey Bogart a.k.a. Philip Marlowe, privatni detektiv, ki za primerno plačilo pomaga ljudem iz zagat.
Za ogrevanje pa še ena najbolj zabavnih anekdot iz sveta filma:
V prizoru, ko Marlowe najde Martho Vickers na kavču, je režiser Hawks rekel igralki, da naj zaigra orgazem, poleg sta bila še soigralca Bogart in Regis Toomney in še nekaj ljudi.
"Sweetheart, what we want here is for you to simulate that you're having an orgasm."
Martha Vickers asked, "What's an orgasm?"
Nobody spoke. Nobody knew what to do. Literally. These three men,
Hawks, Bogart, and Toomey—standing there with a teenage actress—asking
them what an orgasm was. Dead silence. Hawks called a 10-minute break,
and called Toomey aside. He asked Toomey to please go and explain to
"Miss Vickers" what an orgasm was.
Toomey, who apparently was a good-natured fellow, but also the product of a strict Irish Catholic upbringing (so funny to imagine!!), went over to Martha and explained it to her. (Wish I could have been a fly on the wall for that one.)
Toomey said later to Bogart, "The girl didn't know anything. I asked, 'Are you a virgin?' 'Uh yes.' 'Do you know what an orgasm is? Mr. Hawks wants you to be having an orgasm here.' 'No, I don't know what it is.' 'You don't know what an orgasm is?' 'No.' And so, dammit, I explained to her what an orgasm was. And she got the idea all right. Howard liked the scene very much."
After that, it became a huge joke. Hawks would say to Toomey, "If I ever have to explain an orgasm again, I am calling on you." And Bogie would laugh and laugh like a madman. ( Noir of the Week)

Tokrat Marlowa najame ostareli in hendikepirani general Sternwood, saj nekdo izsiljuje njegovo mlajšo hčer (Martha Vickers), ki nam že s prvim nastopom pokaže, da je precej navihano dekle:
Marlowe: Then she tried to sit in my lap while I was standing up.

Cenzorji so najverjetneje prebledeli od strahu, ko so slišali, da nameravajo posneti ta film. V tistem času filmi namreč niso smeli odkrito govoriti o pornografiji, drogah ali homoseksualcih, protagonist je moral biti na koncu moralno povsem "čist", zlobneži so morali biti ujeti ali ubiti, kar je še dodatno zapletlo zgodbo, celotne prizore iz romana pa so morali enostavno izpustiti. Gledalec mora tako sam ugotoviti motive za določena dejanja oseb na platnu, saj brez prave razlage izgledajo precej nesmiselno ( podrobneje tukaj ). Kljub vsem oviram je Hawks Marlowa uspšeno popeljal skozi umazani podzemni svet kriminala, pornografije in perverznežev.

The Big Sleep je eden najbolj cenjenih filmov noir, čeprav ne vsebuje vseh noirovskih elementov, užitek ga je gledati, poslušati dialoge in obenem poizkušati slediti zgodbi, brez težav pa si ga lahko ogleda tudi moderni gledalec, saj bo hitro padel v stiliziran noirovski svet, negodovanja ter posmeha ob preveč melodramatičnih prizorih bo zelo malo, v veliko stvareh je še vedno precej aktualen.
Brezčasna klasika
Jebena klasika, kjer dialogi še danes delujejo moderno, sveže, frajersko in skulirano. Jasno, Humphrey Bogart, ki je dve leti prej z Lauren Bacall počil To Have and Have Not, je Philip Marlowe, kultni private dick, ki se znajde v tisočerih spletkah, preobratih, zasukih, presenečenjih in zvijačah. V vsem tistem, kar obvlada. V vsem tistem, kjer se počuti doma. Najame ga bogati major, glavo mu mešata njegovi razvajeni hčerki (Lauren Bacall, Martha Vickers), nadenj pa se spravijo vsi mogoči nepridipravi, ki imajo čas. Vrhunska črnobela klasika, čistokrvni film noir, še en Malteški sokol, ki kot za šalo obračuna z vsemi modernnimi kopijami.
ReplyDeleteKulten film, resnično. Na trenutke še boljši od sokola in klasike The Naked City. Pa meni zelo, zelo ljub žanr, ki ga danes nažalost v rudimentalni obliki ne poznamo več. Še neo-noira (LA. Confidential, Black Dahlia, Sin City) je danes tako malo, da kar boli.
ReplyDeleteres je, in še tisti, ki so, ponovno dobivajo slabe ocene kritikov, podobno kot v starih časih :D (predvsem imam v mislih black dahlio); bilo pa je kar nekaj filmov posnetih tudi v začetku 90ih
ReplyDeletesem pa ravno včeraj našel pre-release the big sleep, kjer je preiskava bolj podrobno razložena in zato bolj logična, v zameno za manj scen z bogartom+bacallovo :)
